Daimler sells more cars than ever before

Mercedes sales in China are booming: Sales of the Daimler brand increased by 17.2 percent compared with the same month last year. Despite record levels, shareholders worry about the future of the car maker.

The carmaker Daimler Chart zeigen benefit from good sales in China, In March, the passenger car division of the Stuttgart worldwide 250,444 cars from, 2.8 percent more than in the same month last year, as the Dax Corporation announced.

A significant decline in the small car brand Smart could make up for the parent brand Mercedes-Benz with an increase of 3.9 percent to 237,307 cars. China continued to deliver the biggest boost with an increase of 17.2 percent. Sales in the other markets, such as Germany (+1.3 percent), grew either less strongly or declined as in the USA.

In the first quarter The sales of the private label increased by six percent, making it the strongest sales quarter of the company’s history. The city’s SUVs are also the most popular among the Swabians – their sales climbed 12.5 percent in the first three months, making up almost 36 percent of the brand’s total sales.

CEO Zetsche warns of future challenges

Already in 2017 was a successful year for Daimler: The company sold more vehicles than ever before – which ultimately led to best results on the balance sheet. Despite the record numbers warned CEO Dieter Zetsche at the Annual General Meeting but faced with future challenges: The diesel scandal, cartel allegations and the growing interest in electric mobility are giving future shareholders a worry about the future.

The domestic rivals BMW and Audi have not yet published any worldwide sales figures for March.
