The diesel scandal has BMW Achieved: The Federal Ministry of Transport is investigating allegations against the carmaker, exhaust gases are not sufficiently clean. Previously, the German Environmental Aid (DUH) and the ZDF magazine “Wiso” had accused the group, an illegal Deployment facility to use for the emission control, The Federal Office had been commissioned to investigate them “immediately after the allegations were announced,” the ministry said.
BMW rejects this and speaks of a “targeted campaign”. In addition, the Group relies on tests of the TÜV Süd and the Federal Motor Transport Authority. For its part, TÜV Süd accused Umwelthilfe of sloppiness during the test.
Specifically, it is in the allegations about a BMW 320d from 2016, which according to environmental aid chief Jürgen Resch on the road even in everyday driving behavior is expected to emit significantly more harmful nitrogen oxides than allowed. The DUH published its own measurement results. Resch said there was “very strong evidence of the presence of a defeat device”, which already in the “middle speed range” in everyday driving down the emission control. From the point of view of DUH, this is not justifiable with the protection of the engine and thus not legally permissible.
Resch demanded a review of the BMW vehicles. If the cars have a cheat software, the KBA must deprive them of the type approval and recall all affected vehicles. He also applied to the Ministry of Transport for the publication of all officially known defeat devices for diesel cars from different manufacturers.
BMW had always emphasized in the course of the VW emissions scandal, to abide by the rules. Even now, the car maker announced that vehicles from BMW basically comply with the law and are not manipulated.
