Fraunhofer comparison confirms danger for location Germany So many jobs bring electric motors, gasoline or diesel
Germany’s flagship industry has to deal with the ugly word “structural change”. What is reminiscent of coal, steel and shipyards, is also the car industry in the future, if electric mobility prevails as expected. “We need new jobs for almost 70,000 employees,” warned IG Metall boss Jörg Hofmann recently in an interview with the manager magazin, There is still a lot of circulation more drastic scenarios,
Now the source for Hofmann’s number is public: A study by the Fraunhofer Institute IAO shows how many jobs depend on combustion engines and transmissions – and how many can be replaced with electric motors or batteries. In addition to the union, the industry association VDA as well as large manufacturers and suppliers (BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, Bosch, Mahle, Schaeffler and ZF) have participated. The study titled ELAB is thus the official assessment of Germany as a car location.
We compare petrol, diesel, electric cars and hybrids in comparison: how many jobs does the production of one million vehicles produce each year in large companies?
