Four carmakers to recall over 210,000 vehicles: ministry

SEOUL, June 14 (Yonhap) — Four carmakers will voluntarily recall more than 210,000 vehicles to fix faulty parts, the transport ministry here said Thursday.

It is the latest in a series of recalls by carmakers and importers to ensure vehicles meet safety rules.

The four carmakers — Kia Motors Corp., GM Korea Co. and Mercedes-Benz Korea and its corporate cousin Daimler Trucks Korea — plan to recall 11 different models totaling 213,322 vehicles. The models include Kia’s Grand Carnival minivan and Mercedes-Benz’s E 220d Coupe, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said in a statement.

The problems include the Carnival’s malfunctioning air conditioner drainage system and faulty seatbacks in the E 220d Coupe, the statement said.

Vehicle owners can visit designated repair and service centers to have the parts replaced free of charge starting Friday, it said.
