Kia’s June sales rise 5.9 pct as demand recovers

SEOUL, July 2 (Yonhap) — Kia Motors Corp. said Monday its car sales rose 5.9 percent last month from a year earlier on recovering demand for its vehicles.

Kia Motors sold 251,216 vehicles in June, up from 237,318 units a year earlier, the company said in a statement.

The monthly sales were helped by recovering overseas demand for its new and upgraded models, such as the Stonic subcompact SUV, the Stinger sports car, the Rio subcompact and the Sportage SUV, it said.

Domestic sales fell 2.2 percent on-year to 46,000 units in June from 47,015. Overseas sales climbed 7.8 percent to 205,216 from 190,303 over the same period, the statement said.

In the January-June period, Kia’s sales grew 4.3 percent to 1.39 million autos from 1.33 million units in the year-ago period, it said.
