Opel has clearly lost ground on the German car market in the first half of the year. At the same time, more cars have been registered under the line than a year ago, as figures from the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt show. For example, market leaders VW and competitor Ford have significantly increased their sales. After all, Opel could slow down the descent in June.
The Association of the German Automotive Industry sees the industry in a good condition. “Despite the economic and political uncertainties, the German automotive industry is strong. It remains a growth industry, “said the car lobby in the morning. According to their estimates, the German market will grow by one percent this year compared to 2017.
Behind Audi, BMW and Ford
As reported by the Federal Office, the German subsidiary of the Peugeot dam PSA sold a good five percent fewer vehicles in June than a year ago, while the overall market grew by a good four percent. In the first six months, the Rüsselsheim have even suffered a loss of just over seven percent. All in all, the number of new registrations increased in the same period by just under three percent.
From January to the end, the southern Hesse reached a market share of 6.4 percent. Ford came in at 7.4 percent, BMW at 7.1 percent and Audi at 8.2 percent. For Opel, all this is already unfortunate, because the carmaker since 2017 with his biggest model offensive so far wanted to revive the sales.
