Waylands Automotive has acquired Volvo Cars Swindon, its third Volvo business.
The group was created in November 2017 with the purchase of Volvo Cars Reading, followed by the acquisition of Fawcetts Volvo , Newbury in May 2018.
The group is led by John O Hanlon (pictured), who headed up Ridgeway before it was bought by Marshall in May 2016 for £106.9m in a cash deal.
O Hanlon has subsequently moved to bolster management at Waylands with the recruitment of ex-Ridgeway directors James Smullen and Richard Spencer to the Waylands board.
O Hanlon has said he aims to build Waylands into a £100m business by 2021. “We are pleased that we have successfully completed this transaction. Swindon represents a territory with huge potential and is contiguous to our Newbury and Reading market area.
“We look forward to working with the team at Swindon and meeting our new and existing customers. The two-acre site is in a fantastic location; only minutes from the M4 and on the hugely busy Great Western Way.
“With nearly 200 car display and parking spaces, we will be able to showcase all of the fantastic new Volvo product, carry a significant number of used and demonstrator vehicles and have the capacity and resource to meet all our customer’s expectations.
“We are working on plans to fully implement Volvo’s new retail concept onto the site which will create one of the best motor retail environments in the region.”
