Daimler launches new chauffeur service in Los Angeles

The carmaker Daimler is providing a new chauffeur service in the center of Los Angeles through its mobility company Moovel.

To complement public transport in Los Angeles, the on-demand rideshare project will be provided by u. a. started the two cooperation partners. Initially, the service is to be promoted with discounts, but in the future one calculates a “competitive flat rate”. Where there should be a social rate.

The corresponding app will be available in English and Spanish. The car service will be available in the evening. Time is timed to reduce public transport. The vehicles presents Mercedes Benz, which are the Transporter Metris and GLC models with hybrid drive. The travelers consist of US military veterans.

The algorithm has been established by Moovel, which provides virtual stops and bundles people who want to go in the same direction. At the virtual stops you can get on and off. Travelers formerly employed by the military are selected by FASTLinkDTLA.

For people with disabilities there are special vehicles provided by ButterFLi. The company specializes in this group of people.

Other partners in the project include Fixing Angeleno Stuck in Traffic (FAST), the city’s metro, local traffic authorities (LADOT), Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI) and members of the City Council.

Daimler will, in cooperation with Bosch, from next year also a robot taxi service in San Francisco to offer. It is a test run with level 4 (high autonomy) vehicles.
