Britain’s richest man is considering building cars in the UK in a deal that could throw a lifeline to Ford’s engine plant in Wales.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s Ineos chemicals group is developing an off-road car and is reported to be in talks with Ford about producing it at the automotive giant’s factory in Bridgend.
According to an FT report, the South Wales plant has made it on to a shortlist of sites being considered to build the “Projekt Grenadier” vehicle which Sir Jim says will fill a gap in the car market left by Land Rover ending production of its famed Defender.
