For months, US President Donald Trump has attacked German car companies – now he wants to talk: According to media reports, VW, BMW and Daimler have received an invitation to Washington.

Earlier, the US news agency Bloomberg had already reported on the invitation. An exact time for the meeting has not yet been determined. Among other things, an appointment should be held in late November. According to “Handelsblatt” the three companies have signaled readiness to send their chief executive to Washington. Whether Trump wants to meet in person with the German auto managers or a government member is to lead the talks, is open, writes the newspaper.

Trump had repeatedly criticized the German car industry in the past – and brought massive punitive tariffs on German vehicle imports into the conversation.
