The crux of electric cars is the poorly developed charging network: Volkswagen is therefore building a mobile fast-charging station that can be set up wherever it is needed – for example on public parking spaces in the city or as a temporary charging point for major events.

The mobile charging station from Volkswagen is a huge battery for e-vehicles with 360 kWh. This should be able to charge up to 15 electric cars, then the column itself back to the electricity. If it is connected to the power supply via AC, the internal battery charges and in parallel can also charge cars.

Motorists can locate the mobile charging stations with an app. The columns can deliver direct current with up to 100 kW. Up to four vehicles can simultaneously charge on one column, two via DC and two more via AC connections.

The first mobile rapid charging stations are to be set up as part of a pilot project in the first half of 2019 in Wolfsburg, such as the automaker announced, From 2020, the charging station will also be used in other cities and municipalities.

Thomas Schmall, CEO of the Volkswagen Group, said, “For example, cities can learn where the most suitable places are for a fixed charging point before investing heavily in grid expansion Set up charging stations – exactly when and where they are needed. “

The charging station is equipped with a battery pack from VW’s Modular Electrical Construction Kit (MEB), which is also in the future electric cars of the Volkswagen Group. A price is not yet available.

An even more mobile charging service for electric cars has been developed by the Berlin startup Chargery. The Battery transported by bicycle is connected to the vehicle, secured and picked up again at the end of the charging time. In addition to mobile charging Chargery offers services such as cleaning the interior of e-vehicles or minor maintenance. In four hours, the batteries, which together have a capacity of 24 kWh, have an e-car like a BMW i3 or a Nissan Leaf loaded. The car rental company Sixt had one recently low involvement in chargery accepted.
