Seat develops a new system that protects cyclists

The safety of a vehicle includes ever more demanding tests. It is not enough that the car protects its occupants in the event of a collision, but it is also essential that the driver has an assistance system to protect the most vulnerable on the road. To that end, the newSeat TarracoIt incorporates a system that protects cyclists.

Unfortunately, accidents in which cyclists are involved are not uncommon, since they account for 8% of accidents in Europe. The consequences for cyclists are usually very serious in the face of the lack of protection they have in the event of a collision with a car.

Faced with this risk on the road, Seat has researched and developed a new system that detects the presence of bicycles on the road and carries out a collision warning or an emergency braking if the driver does not stop the vehicle on his own and on time.

Activation in tenths of a second

Everything happens in a matter of tenths of a second. The assistant of the new big SUV of Seat detects the danger of collision with an advance of 1.5 or 2 seconds and emits an acoustic and visual warning. If the driver ignores this warning, the car automatically triggers an emergency braking with an advance of 0.8 to 1 second.
