The vehicle manufacturer wants to invest 2.5 billion euros Daimler to boost its van sales. The money will be used for the market launch of a new Sprinter model, which was presented in Duisburg. The billions go into the development, the production and sales measures – partly the money already flowed. In the past year, Sprinter’s sales had increased by 4 percent to a good 200,000 vehicles.
Daimler’s central Sprinter plant is located in Dusseldorf and has around 6,500 employees. Around 300 million euros from the investment package will flow into this production site. However, about one-tenth of the Düsseldorf offices could be relocated to the USA. There, Daimler has built a new van plant for the equivalent of 500 million euros.
The possible job relocation Daimler had announced a few years ago. However, the board is hoping for a slower downsizing of staff in Germany: “If the market continues to pull the way it pulls at the moment, there is certainly the possibility that we do not have to go back to the planning at the time.”
In 2019, Daimler wants to launch its sprinter as an electric version. Thus, the Stuttgart group is relatively late to it – the competitors VW and Renault They want to get their big e-vans out this year.
