Gated manual shifters are cool, but have you ever seen the Spyker C8’s shifter? It’s an all-metal assembly that floats above the console and pivots to control a rod that goes directly into the engine bay. It’s an incredibly cool design we think is worth the asking price alone. This 2009 example is for sale on eBay Motors right now. You should buy it.
Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.
The C8 is incredibly rare—only a few hundred have ever been built. It’s powered by an Audi-sourced 400-horsepower 4.2-liter V8 mounted behind the cabin, getting power to the rear wheels via that sweet gearbox. The shifter isn’t the only cool part about the interior, either—all of the switchgear is expertly designed with high-quality material meant to resemble a vintage airplane cockpit. The exterior design mirrors that theme, with turbine wheels and unique side-mounted intakes. It’s an incredibly clean, retro-inspired look that we think will always look fresh. And with a curb weight of around 2800 pounds, you’re looking at supercar levels of performance.
This is an early 2009 model Spyder, which means an open roof with no top. So while it looks cool, it’s certainly not the best daily-driver, which is probably why the mileage is so low. Despite being a decade old, this one has only covered 1685 miles since new. It’s for sale right now on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $299,995 or best offer by a dealer called Naples Motorsports in Florida. That’s a substantial amount of money, yes, but it’s not like you’re buying it just for the shifter. The C8 is wonderful to drive, and chances are you won’t run into another one anytime soon. We’d say that’s worth it.
