Tesla hosts a hacking contest. The person who manages to hack the car wins a Tesla Model 3.
The concept is not new, but the price already. Who manages one Tesla to hack, gets a new car for it. Such competitions are not uncommon and serve the safety of vehicle IT.
Again and again there are researchers who try vulnerabilities to find in vehicles. For example, Uber already has people adjustedthat are well-versed in the vehicle towing. Tesla has been using a premium for the last four years, which was distributed to people who found security bugs in the cars’ software. There were sums totaling 15,000 US dollars over the table.
Now you go another way, so far unique in the auto industry is. You can not win money, you can win a car. The competition will be part of an event organized by the Zero Day Initiative (ZDI) in cooperation with Trend Micro. This event will be held in March 2019 in Vancouver, Canada.
The concept is also followed by other companies. So IT professionals can look at other products, like the Oracle VirtualBox Microsoft Office 365 or Google Try Chrome.
Again and again, despite the high expense of the manufacturer Tesla vehicles hacked. That’s what happened 2018 and 2017, However, not only are Tesla vehicles hacked. Many brands are affected by this and, with regard to autonomous driving, this is particularly critical. The boss of Tesla therefore plans to make his software available to other manufacturers to enhance the car IT security.
