Waiving for diesel: Volvo builds electric excavators and e-wheel loaders

Volvo wants to launch a series of electric compact excavators and wheel loaders by mid-2020 and stop the development of new diesel engine models.

Volvo wants its compact excavators and wheel loaders in the future offer only with electric motors, New diesel models are no longer developed. The first machines were presented at the Bauma fair in April 2019, the company said. The gradual market launch is expected to begin in 2020.

The company already had the all-electric one Truck Volvo VNR announced for regional transport. The vehicle is a semi-trailer and will be sold in North America from 2020.

The VNR is said to be based on the technology of Electric truck FL Electric based. It is a 16-tonner, which is to reach a range of up to 300 km equipped with various battery packs with a capacity between 100 and 300 kWh. It should be used primarily in urban distribution and for garbage disposal. The semitrailer, on the other hand, is intended for the regional freight transport market.

With the Polestar 2 brings Volvos Performance subsidiary Polestar End of 2019, a mid-size sedan as the first pure electric car of the Volvo Group on the market.
