We are very proud of the work behind those numbers. In 2018 Embark’s fleet expanded dramatically. We opened our first Operations Center — located in Southern California — which allowed us to operate routes starting near the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, with access to the largest freight market on the west coast. We on-boarded many new freight customers, including some of the largest shippers in the country. And Embark hired a world-class team of drivers and operators responsible for keeping the trucks safe in automated mode.

All these initiatives came together to make Embark the first startup to report more than 100,000 miles of automated driving in a single year. This has been done by two companies previously— Waymo and Cruise — but Embark is the first startup to do it without relying on billions of dollars of spending from a corporate parent company. While building a self-driving vehicle will take a lot more than just miles on the road, being able to run a sophisticated driving operation is a necessary first step. Embark has shown our ability to do just that.

A big shout out to our driving team, who made this year possible and who have consistently performed above and beyond: with responsibility, safety, and professionalism. We are excited for what’s ahead in 2019 as we continue to expand the fleet and the team!
