Dealers are beginning to see a decline in the numbers of nearly new diesel cars in the market as a result of dieselgate three years ago.
Diesel sales have been falling steadily and the nearly new diesel used car parc has shrunk as a result.
“The dawn of dieselgate three years ago had a relatively low impact on the used market when compared to new,” said Philip Nothard, customer insight and strategy director with Cox Automotive.
“However, we are starting to see lower numbers of diesel vehicles in the nearly new age bracket,” he said in his Market Insight Overview for January 2019.
Nothard said that competition for ready-to-retail stock was fierce in January and with its trade to trade site Dealer-Auction.com reporting that vehicle sales were up 10% year-on-year and values up 7%.
He said stocking the right cars on the forecourt is key and dealers “would do well” to look for affordable sub-£10,000 family cars as consumer demand is strong in this category
