Recently on Sundays, at carnival time, Uli Hoeneß (67) shows his mild side in the TV program “Doppelpass”. As president of FC Bayern München, he must be very grateful to players like Arjen Robben (35) and Franck Ribéry (35): “We do not want to offend them”, but “make a sensible exit”. Therefore, the rejuvenation of the squad has been postponed – even if it costs the championship in a year.
What sounded noble was the attempt to regain the authority to interpret the omitted change in Germany’s most successful football team. But with his generosity, Hoeneß alienated two of his most important supporters: the sponsors, who transfer considerable sums to Munich to profit from titles. And the fans who love their “star of the south” in all “Mia san mia” family spirit, especially for its winning gene. In the stadium, they cheer: “F-C-Bavaria, Forever-number-one”.
Hoeness, however, is now his own standard. “I have won more than 50 titles in my life,” he explains the new modesty. “It does not matter to one or the other.”
We are who we are? Rubbish! Mia I am!
