The trend towards larger, more motorized and better equipped cars is having an impact Daimler also on the CO2 fleet values. While the cars sold in Europe from Mercedes Benz Cars averaged 123 grams of climate-damaging carbon dioxide (CO2) per kilometer traveled in 2015 and 2016, the figure rose slightly to 125 grams in 2017. This is clear from the annual report published on Tuesday. The reason given is a “shift in sales towards high-quality equipped vehicles”.

Daimler Last year, among other things, it sold significantly more heavy and more carbon-emitting SUVs than in the previous year. By contrast, in the compact A and B classes, which in some cases had risen strongly in the years before, sales fell slightly.

Currently, the manufacturers still have a fleet limit of 130 grams of CO2 per kilometer on average of all newly registered cars. From 2021 then generally reaches the target of 95 grams. Manufacturers of larger cars – such as Daimler – may also be slightly higher.
