Volkswagen drives the Conversion of his work in Zwickau, Saxony to the first pure E-car factory of Germany Ahead. From mid-2020, only electric vehicles will be built on site. It starts with the ID.3, the end of 2019 roll off the line. “It will be converted for a new era,” said the managing director of engineering and logistics at VW Saxony, Reinhard de Vries, the German Press Agency. In Zwickau, among other things, 1500 new robots were purchased and production facilities rebuilt. In addition, the training of almost 8,000 employees is underway to make them fit for the topic of electromobility.

Instead of 300,000 vehicles a year so far, 330,000 cars will roll off the production line every day in Zwickau. They are to be sold not only in Germany, but especially in the rest of the world – especially in China, where the VW Group has recently sold 40 percent of its annual output of 10.8 million vehicles. The Group is investing a total of 44 billion euros in e-mobility, autonomous driving and digitization over the next five years.
