Car sales in Italy fall 1.19% in May and reach 197,307 units

ROME, Jun 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sales of cars and SUVs in the Italian market stood at 197,307 units during the month of May, down 1.19% compared to the 199,692 units delivered in that month of 2018.

According to data from the National Archive of Vehicles of Italy collected by Europa Press, the Italian automobile market stood at 910,093 units in the first five months of the current year, 3.8% less than in that period of 2018.

Fiat was the brand that registered the highest commercial volume in this market in May, with 34,900 units, down 1.4%, ahead of Volkswagen, with 18,880 units, 5% more; of Renault, with 13,000 units, 14.3% less; Ford, with 11,908 units, 6.9% less, and Peugeot, with 10,253 units, 1.5% less.

Between January and May, Fiat was also the best-selling firm in Italy, with 147,323 units, which represents a decrease of 14.5% when compared to the 172,409 units delivered in said period of the previous year.

The ‘top 5’ in the accumulated was completed by Volkswagen, with 82,633 units, a 2.9% increase; Ford, with 57,823 units, 11.9% less; Peugeot, with 54,027 units, 0.29% more, and Renault, with 52,817 units, 13.2% less.
