Again, a little more cars will be registered in Europe – but not in Britain, which has been hit hard by Brexit

Demand in the European car market has not fallen for the first time in eight months last month. In May, new registrations in the European Union rose compared to the same month last year by 0.1 percent to a good 1.4 million, the industry association Acea announced on Tuesday.

In Germany, the number increased by 9.1 percent to almost 333,000 cars. Downhill went in the UK, where just under 184,000 cars and thus 4.6 percent less were sold.

The Car industry in the UK has been suffering sales, production and investment losses for more than two years. These are partly own omissions but also due to the wrangling over the Brexit. In 2018, car sales on the island slid by around 9 percent. Also in the current year, sales on the island continued to decline until May.

Among the German auto companies, the BMW Group grew the most, with a plus of 8.8 percent to 88,507 cars. Daimler recorded a plus of 0.4 percent, VW had to accept across all brands a drop of 2.1 percent to a good 345,000 vehicles.
