The average price of registered vehicles rose by 0.8% in June

The rise in the price of cars in June contrasts with the drop in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the average price of cars registered during the month of June experienced an annual increase of 0.8%. This figure contrasts with the general trend of prices during the past month, the CPI suffered a drop of around four tenths.

According to Europa Press, sources in the automotive sector explain that this increase in the average price is due to the entry into force of the cycle of WLTP approval, last September 1st. They also suggest that months prior to the implementation of the WLTP implemented measures to reduce their stock of models not approved under the new criteria, which led to significant sales increases.

The INE data also shows that the price of cars closed the semester with a growth of 0.4%. A gradual growth that was constant in the month of May and June. Spare parts and accessories for vehicles, meanwhile, recorded a price drop of eight tenths in June in the year-on-year comparison, as well as two tenths in the inter-monthly and 0.5% since January.

On the other hand, vehicle maintenance and repair services also increased by 1.7% in June compared to the same month in 2018. In the total of the year, maintenance service prices rose by 0.9%.
