IONITY, a joint venture between Daimler, Ford, BMW and VW to create a fast charging network throughout Europe, has partnered with Extra, a UK service station operator, to install fast charging stations at eight Extra locations. Each charging station will initially include up to six 350 kW chargers.
The first of the charging stations is set to open later this year. In total, IONITY plans to install 2,400 chargers throughout Europe by the end of 2020. Shell and Motor Fuel Group are also partners in IONITY’s UK network.
IONITY COO Marcus Groll said, “We are making e-mobility a practical alternative to motorists in the UK, greatly enhancing the ownership experience. It is fantastic to have Extra on board, helping us position charging stations at critical locations across the UK Motorway Network.”
