Trump says auto tariffs never off the table in European Union trade talks

WASHINGTON, Aug 2 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that tariffs on European automobiles are never off the table in trade talks with the European Union and are something he may have to impose if he doesn’t get what he wants in the negotiations.

Trump made the comments to reporters at the White House shortly after he signed a deal to sell more American beef to Europe, following which he joked that his administration was working “on a 25% tariff on all Mercedes-Benz and BMWs coming into our nation.” He then said he was only kidding.
