Porsche Macan production in Leipzig: night shift in the assembly department deleted

The carmaker Porsche has shut down its production in Leipzig. Since the beginning of the week, the night shift in the assembly department has been canceled, said a spokeswoman on Thursday on demand. There will be worked until further notice only in two-shift system. The background to the decline in production is “market fluctuations”.

About 500 temporary workers were affected by the change – they had been offered by their employer all replacement jobs, the spokeswoman. Paint shop and body shop continue to work in contrast to the assembly department in a three-shift system.

In 2002, the Saxon factory with just under 300 employees was launched, meanwhile, according to Porsche, it has more than 4,300 employees. In Leipzig, the axis of the electric Macan is due to roll off the production line in a few years’ time. According to the company, the company is investing around 600 million euros in a plant expansion for axle production, including a new body shop. In March, Porsche laid the foundation for the E-Macan construction.
