Renault boss Thierry Bolloré: “The prices for electric cars have to fall dramatically, that is a necessity”

So far you have to spend at least around 20,000 euros for one electric car output. But RenaultCEO Thierry Bolloré expects that the Stromer will be available in the future for 10,000 euros. “We’re working on that, and it will take far less than five years for such a car to hit the market in Europe,” he told the “Handelsblatt” on Monday. “The price of electric cars has to drop dramatically, that’s a necessity,” Bolloré continued.

The debate on climate change and pollutant emissions was “fatal for the diesel,” Bolloré said. “The fight in the public discussion has killed the technology.” Clean diesel engines have also become more expensive due to legal requirements and are “in competition with hybrid and electric motors, especially for small cars”.

Regarding the future of diesel power, Bolloré said: “Maybe we’ll see diesel in the countryside, where people have to travel long distances.”
