Arm and the Board of Autonomous Driving

The British chip maker Arm founds a consortium for autonomous driving.

Arm specializes in semiconductor technology and is part of the SoftBank empire. The Japanese group Softbank has bought in numerous companies of the autonomous vehicle industry.

Together with the US manufacturer General Motors and the Japanese carmaker Toyota wants to develop arm computer systems for autonomous driving. The goal is to drive the development of self-propelled technology.

The company Arm also provides the basis for the smartphone chips, but not the chips themselves. The company has been linked with the automotive industry for some 20 years and was one of the first outfitters for digital technology in the car.

Other companies that initiated the creation of Autonomous Vehicle Computing Consortium (AVCC) are: Bosch. Continental. Denso. Nvidia and NXP, The collaboration is based on the assumption that the number of chips needed in the car will increase. The focus here is on autonomous driving and delivering new chips that are smaller and smaller energy-efficient are.

The AVC consortium provides an independent body that is funded by membership fees. But the results will also be made available to third parties. So you want to simplify the software for the technology so that it runs on the chips of different manufacturers.
