The Volkswagen Group wants to expand its software company Car.Software into an independent company.
Tomorrow’s car is dominated by its software. This is even more true when it comes to the Autonomous driving goes. Therefore has Volkswagen created its own software programming department, which is now to be strengthened.
For the first of January of the coming year, this department will be set up as an independent company. There, all software matters of Volkswagen are to be bundled. Initially, therefore, around 3,000 specialists from VW’s own companies will work together. Later, the professionals of different brands are there to be collected and you want to hire new staff – by 2025 there should be 10,000 professionals in the field of digital.
A central concern will be the development of the own operating system, which has been christened “vw.os”. The system should become the basis for all brands of the company. The system should be connected to the VW cloud, operate the infotainment system and, above all, the assistance systems should run as far as autonomous driving.
The Car.Software company will seats in Berlin, in Bochum, in the room Ingolstadt, in the Stuttgart area and in Wolfsburg to have. Besides, you want them in Seattle and Peking colonize. VW plans to invest over seven billion euros by 2025 for the company.
