In Grünheide you are not quite there yet: This is Tesla’s new factory in Shanghai.

The US electric car maker Tesla wants to produce several models in his planned factory in Brandenburg. In Grünheide near Berlin, an estimated 500,000 a year electric vehicles of the 3 and Y models as well as future models are to be built and assembled, according to the announcement by the State Office for the Environment in the Official Journal for Brandenburg, which was published on Friday evening. Commissioning should take place in July 2021. In 2019, the company delivered a total of around 367,500 vehicles.

With the announcement in the official gazette, the approval process for the planned work is officially opened. In the factory in the Oder-Spree district, a press shop, a foundry, body shop, paint shop, seat production, plastic and battery production as well as the production of drive and final assembly are to be accommodated. A central supply building and a wastewater treatment plant are also planned. Several media had reported on the production plans.

Information about jobs are not found in the Official Journal. Tesla has posted over 30 jobs for a “Gigafactory Berlin” on its website, including a Construction Superintendent, a Construction Project Manager and a Mechanical Engineering Lead.

According to the information provided by the Brandenburg state government, over 3,000 jobs are planned in a first stage in Grünheide, and up to 8,000 could increase after expansion. Oder-Spree district administrator Rolf Lindemann (SPD) had said in December that up to 4000 people should work in three shifts in the factory.
