The test field for autonomous driving in Lower Saxony is now officially in operation.
At the opening of the test field in Lower Saxonyhas been working since 2017. Now the first kilometers have been officially opened.
The test field is used to research and test autonomous vehicle technology, whereby it has been divided into different sections. The now opened section measures seven kilometers and is primarily used to collect data. 71 masts were set up to monitor the traffic. You have that traffic flow in the eye. The section takes place on the A 39 between the Wolfsburg-Königslutter intersection and Cremlingen.
The test track is under the direction of DLR originated and is open to everyone, although above all Volkswagen is interested. Currently testing there too Continental, IAV, OECON, the ADAC, Nordsys and Siemens,
The erected masts are equipped with cameras, the data of which are processed in real time and transmitted to the vehicles. These dates are anonymous Service. The data should also be used to gain insight into what automation and assistance systems on the freeway must be able to do.
Mobile sensor masts can also be set up on the roads next to the motorway so that the tests can also be carried out there. All masts also have a communication unit via WLANp, This is the equivalent of DSRC and the competition standard to 5G.
The route had been precisely recorded beforehand and is therefore also available as a simulation. Until the final approval, 280 test kilometers are then available along the A 2, A 39, A 391 as well as on federal and state roads. This also connects the test fields in Braunschweig.
