Mercedes-Benz: own operating system

The manufacturer Mercedes-Benz wants to equip its vehicles with its own operating system: MB.OS.

Like the computer, the operating system is the basis for the applications that build on it. The more software works in the car, the more important an operating system becomes. This development has been in sight for a long time and some providers have positioned themselves.

In addition to the new Android Automotive of Google are also companies like QNX or Renovo already with their own systems on the market. There will be a competition, such as between Microsoft’s Windows and Apple’s iOS, which also want to get involved in the car.

Now the manufacturer announced Mercedes Benz to also develop an operating system that should be integrated into its vehicles. The name of the system is MB.OS, i.e. Mercedes-Benz Operating System. The system should be ready in three to four years, says development chief Markus Schäfer at the CES 2020 in Las Vegas.
