TU Hamburg: On-Demand Pooling and public transport

A study by the Hamburg University of Technology shows that ride pooling can complement public transport as an on-demand concept.

The local public transport is disadvantaged with some mobility concepts. But not with everyone. For example, researchers at TU Hamburg have shown that on-demand ride pooling is a good addition to public transport. Even more, it is also good for climate protection.

The on-demand offer of the DB subsidiary was examined Ioki in Hamburg. The company has been offering in for a year and a half Hamburg such a service, which is integrated in the public transport. According to the study, the concept is well accepted.

The study uncovered a few points. 72 percent of those surveyed stated that they use the service to reach the next stop. 25 percent leave their own car behind. 50 percent use the offer every day and 88 percent have a public transport ticket. Most people who use the service for security reasons are female.

The study also shows that 56 percent use the service despite a surcharge and 21 percent increased their own trips. The so-called comfort surcharge is viewed positively by 77 percent.
