Berlin offers money for the cornering assistance system

The city of Berlin is planning a fund of one million euros for truck turning assistance systems.

In Berlin there have been two fatal bicycle accidents this year. In one case it was a truck, otherwise a public transport bus BVG, The bus even had a stripped down version of the turn-off, After the events, the call for more technology grew louder.

Bus und die Umwelt

The EU wants that assistance systems make it mandatory for new trucks from 2022 and the Federal Ministry of Transport had one funding pot advertised, which was exhausted after a few days. There was no further large subsidy afterwards. Therefore, the city of Berlin has now agreed to set up such a fund.

The Berlin Senate is providing one million euros each for the next two years. The city thus takes over 80 percent of the bill for the integration of the systems, with a maximum of up to 1,500 euros. That is enough for at best 3,300 or at least 1,300 trucks. However, around 100,000 trucks with the B registration are registered.
