AutoScout24 survey on autonomous driving

The online marketplace for vehicles, AutoScout24, conducted a survey on attitudes towards autonomous driving.

The Autonomous driving promises increased traffic safety and, depending on the establishment, also a relief for the environment. But that trust in technology and thus its acceptance remains below what is needed for market penetration.

The AutoScout24 survey also starts with acceptance and reveals that around 30 percent are skeptical of autonomous vehicle technology. Women are even less convinced than men. The survey asked 1,000 car owners about their attitude towards autonomous driving.

Specifically, 34 percent stated that they did not trust the technology and even fear it. Driving is associated with freedom, which would be lost with autonomous driving – according to 30 percent of those surveyed. 27 percent fear losing the fun of driving and 17 percent said that would restrict people too much.

18 percent see it differently. For them, the autonomous trip would be job a practical thing. It would time share with other things. 17 percent even see this as an increase in autonomy for themselves. 13 percent see it as an increase in traffic safety and eleven percent see it primarily as a luxury.

44 percent of women are afraid of technology. Only 23 percent of men share this feeling. Freedom of expression, 19 percent of women understand autonomous driving and 15 percent of men.
