MAN wants to cut every 6th position

The truck builder MAN wants to cut jobs massively. The “Handelsblatt” reported on Thursday, citing corporate groups, that 6000 of the 36,000 jobs across the company were at acute risk. The Executive Board informed the works council of this number at a consultation meeting. Part of the consideration is the closure of the location in Steyr, Austria. The company itself spoke to the newspaper of a significant job cuts, but did not give any figures.

According to the “Handelsblatt” report, the production of light and medium-duty trucks could be relocated to Germany and Poland. With its restructuring plan, the management is responding to the continuing weak earnings situation at the Munich company.

MAN has been part of the majority for nine years VolkswagenGroup, which has now bundled the company with Scania in the listed truck holding company Traton. According to the “Handelsblatt”, MAN plans to cut back on staff turnover and severance payments. Operational layoffs are excluded until 2030.
