GENEVA (SWITZERLAND), 7 Mar. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Zity shared mobility company, created through the collaboration between Renault and Ferrovial, can become very soon the first cost-effective car sharing service in Europe, according to Ivan Segal, CEO of Renault Iberia.

Just three months after its launch, Segal has assured Europa Press in the framework of the International Motor Show in Geneva that the joint venture already exceeds the expectations originally proposed by the French manufacturer.

Segal has detailed that Zity registers “very high” usage levels and that users spend up to 20 minutes on average driving the electric ZOE. In addition, he stressed that the ‘StandBy’ function offered by the service increases the sale of minutes. With this, the user can pause the rental of the vehicle either inside or outside the area in which the company operates by keeping the vehicle in his name.

The manager has detailed that Renault expects to fulfill the business plan that was developed before the start-up of Zity in a period not very long (if everything continues as it has been until now). However, the French has made it clear that the brand does not only seek to earn money, but to learn what the mobility of the future will be like.

“The ‘car sharing’ is the premise of what we are going to do in the future, and what we learn now will help us to prepare it,” said the manager of the diamond corporation.

According to Segal, Renault’s vision of the new mobility is represented in the EZ-GO (presented in Geneva), a self-contained shared vehicle that does not need a driver and has completely electric propulsion.

On the other hand, the CEO of Renault Iberia has explained that through ‘big data’ the company is able to know how a user of car sharing behaves and what their habits are. Segal has pointed out that 60% of customers who use car2go (Daimler), Emov (PSA) and Zity, the three companies that operate in Madrid, is a ‘millennial’ and has its own car.

Another of the initiatives proposed by Renault with Zity is to expand its coverage throughout the Community of Madrid. At present, the service area includes all the radius of the M-30 and surrounding neighborhoods.

Segal has pointed out that the company has a predictive system that facilitates the user experience. For example, explain to each driver where to put the car, on what street and in what number.
