BERLIN, April 22 (Xinhua) — Daimler published its sustainability report 2019 on Wednesday and reiterated the company's target to have a fully carbon-neutral passenger car fleet by 2039.
"One of the key fields of action at Daimler is to reduce CO2 emissions," the company stated.
Daimler planned to "significantly increase" the sales of passenger cars with plug-in hybrid drive systems and all-electric drive systems to more than 50 percent by 2030.
At Daimler's flagship brand Mercedes-Benz Cars, the waste level for each vehicle produced had fallen by 25 percent compared with 2013/2014 while energy consumption had dropped by ten percent, the company announced.
The Science Based Targets Initiative by various NGOs as well as the UN had already confirmed in 2019 that Daimler's CO2 targets were in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement, according to Daimler.
On Tuesday, Daimler announced that Daimler Truck AG and carmaker Volvo would form a joint venture for large-scale production of fuel cells for heavy duty vehicles.
The final pillar of Daimler's sustainability program was a focus on human rights throughout its supply chain. Daimler was committed to the German government's national action plan for business and human rights as well as to the UN guiding principles on business and human rights.
"In order to meet its responsibilities in this respect, the company undertakes risk-based due diligence and subjects supply chains for raw materials such as cobalt to rigorous controls all the way back to the mines," Daimler stressed.
