Seat, Volkswagen and Iberdrola join forces to promote a network of charging points in Spain

MADRID, Jul 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The automobile firm Seat, Volkswagen Group Spain Distribution and Iberdrola have signed an agreement to promote electric mobility in Spain, with the aim of promoting the creation of a public network of charging points, promoting the use of renewable energy, marketing charging solutions and integrate Iberdrola’s infrastructure in electric vehicle browsers.

As stated by the companies in a statement, this alliance has been endorsed by the President of Iberdrola, Ignacio Galán, and the CEO of the Volkswagen group and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Seat, Herbert Diess.

Under this signature, the three companies will encourage the use of 100% ‘green’ energy in the electric vehicle supply chain. To do this, they will activate joint innovation projects, work to promote self-consumption with renewable energy and promote projects to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in plants and in the dealer network.

Identifying recharging infrastructure as one of the key factors to boost electromobility, this agreement includes activating intersectoral innovation projects and a plan to ensure the deployment of fast and ultra-fast recharging points in the main corridors of the Spanish road network.

“Now, more than ever, it is essential to establish a comprehensive charging infrastructure service throughout Europe. Spain has a key role in this regard and the Volkswagen group wants to contribute to the advancement of electric and emission-free mobility,” said Diess.

For his part, Galán has assured that this agreement shows the “ambition” of the company’s transportation electrification strategy. “It is necessary to continue collaborating with all agents to respond to the challenges of mobility based on clean energy and without CO2 emissions, and to the demands of a society committed to reducing pollution,” added the President of Iberdrola.
