Michael Macht (59) prefers to be out and about where the air is getting thin. This applies to his career in the VW Group, which reached its peak during his time as Porsche boss (2009 to 2010), as well as to his hobby. “I am an avid ski tourer,” he says, and that after he left, he became the head of production Volkswagen I walked the Haute Route six years ago. Steep climbs and similar descents, often from Chamonix to Zermatt at an altitude of over 3000 meters. In the peak of Corona, he was regularly on the mountain bike.
Power does a lot, but it is almost noiseless – as always. A VW colleague once called him “the sneak” because of his calm demeanor. Still, his life is stimulating. He sits on the supervisory board of Weichai Power, China’s leading engine manufacturer and largest shareholder in Kion, Europe’s number one for forklifts based in Frankfurt. Power has headed the supervisory body there for over a year. “After my back-breaking job in the auto industry, I made a conscious decision to pursue a supervisory board career, I didn’t want this treadmill anymore,” said Macht. His two children have “outgrown him”. The son graduated from high school this year. “I finally wanted more time for private life.”
