The UK government reportedly wants to turn around Electromobility accelerate the pace. Prime Minister Boris Johnson could ban the sale of new diesel and gasoline vehicles in the UK as early as 2030, the Financial Times reported, citing government and industry sources. Hybrid models could be subject to somewhat less strict rules.
In February Johnson announced that to protect the climate from 2035 onwards, no new gasoline or diesel cars would be sold. Previously, the latest date was 2040. Critics had pointed out, however, that Britain would then no longer be able to achieve its goal of reducing its contribution to global warming to zero by 2050.
The UK government is also placing great hopes in the domestic electric car industry. Prime Minister Johnson wanted to present a ten-point plan for climate protection at the beginning of the week.
