Discounted, bordering on boring, but strong and imperial. Cold and shiny. Solid, confident, reliable. He wins for the first time in his career in Turkey, a track recovered this year in an emergency following the sacrifices of others, ahead of Perez and Vettel. Lewis Hamilton takes away the satisfaction of arriving in front also in the race that mathematically crowns him seven times world champion, joining Michael Schumacher in the history of this sport.

Everyone celebrates him for these numbers: the human and sporting value of this man is not in question, who has been able to dismiss the criticisms of those who, as already seen in the “cycles” of repeated successes among manufacturers and drivers, of the Ferrari of Red Bull, tried to belittle the pilot’s worth. Because with such a superior car, it would seem hard to miss. Fortunately for him, his teammate denies this thesis. The human factor should never be lacking: Bottas, even on some occasions favorable to him, has not shown himself as good and will hardly mature to become a great champion: just think about what we saw in today’s 58 laps, where he didn’t failed to run into one of the many “slips” of the day, and was even dubbed.

So Hamilton deserves everything but today, perhaps, even if he hadn’t won, if he had been “less cannibal”, it would have been better for the group, for the interest, for the emotion of the public. He was still top of the class, he knows how to do it well, but he took away a lot of fun, emotions and satisfactions from others. But the media game provides the spotlight for those who get on the podium so, being able to do so, has chosen the best possible consecration, which still deserves.

A useless victory

A useless victory, the math would have proved him right anyway. Winning today, in Bahrain or Abu Dhabi would not have changed anything on the final outcome. It is cold in Istanbul, the Covid-19 rules do not allow concessions and the new champion said to the microphones that tonight he will drink a soup and will probably relate to the day on TV, like any or almost any fan. It is easy for him to prove that he is the best and with this voracity he leaves everyone speechless: on the other hand, it does not matter that he has won, it counts how he did it. He was in trouble at the beginning: he started slow, coming from a rather dull qualifying. In the end, however, he pulverized the competition, inflicting a very heavy gap to the second, despite the fact that upon arrival at the paddock you could see with the naked eye that the tires were really very worn and completely “smoothed” in the center.

Still an interesting Sunday

The premises were different, Sunday was still very interesting. After seeing Lance Stroll in pole position and, in general, a test of the “others”, one certainly would not have hoped to see another Mercedes victory. But we must not forget that Lewis wants to dominate the statistics from all points of view, so he never gave up, he always believed in it. Slowly, he did his job well. He has focused on its qualities and on tire conservation. He was able to interpret the weather changes of the morning, even if he risked being misled by the wrong forecasts of the team: it didn’t rain at the end and they didn’t make a wrong choice just by a whisker. In short, it took luck and experience.
