The Czech Volkswagen-Daughter Skoda has submitted a wage increase of 8.3 percent from April onwards in a wage dispute with the unions to avert an impending strike. “We are negotiating next week, I hope we will reach an agreement,” said Chief Executive Bohdan Wojnar on Wednesday.
Collective bargaining should be conducted separately from the talks on a new shift system, the Skoda wants to increase production and is rejected by the unions. Trade union leader Jaroslav Povsik had threatened a ten-day strike in May if no agreement was reached. The employee representatives aim for a double-digit wage increase.
