Automotive group: PSA invests in Opel plants outside Germany

For the time being, the German locations are not involved in investments in several Opel plants by the French parent company PSA.

The French automobile company PSA invests in several Opel-Werk outside Germany. So to be built from 2019 on in the factories Tychy (Poland) and Szentgotthárd (Hungary) three-cylinder gasoline engines, as the group announced on Wednesday. The Austrian company Aspern is investing to produce additional quantities of the MB6 manual transmission.

The components are to be installed in vehicles of all PSA brands. The PSA Group wants to build electric motors from next year in Trémery, France. For this purpose, a joint venture with the Japanese company Nidec had been agreed.

There was no news for the three German sites Rüsselsheim, Eisenach and Kaiserslautern. Here referred Opel-Mark Michael Lohscheller on the ongoing negotiations with works council and IG Metall. He emphasized the will to invest in these locations and to locate new products there. Prerequisite are competitive structures. Today’s decisions show the great potential that is in the integration of Opel in the Groupe PSA.
