Hamburg The bottleneck in computer chips is forcing Volkswagen to extend short-time work at its largest plant in Wolfsburg. In addition to the compulsory break in Golf production announced in December, short-time work has now also been applied for in consultation with the works council for the production lines of the Tiguan, Touran and Tarraco models and for adjacent areas, VW announced on Wednesday.
There production should rest for four days in January. In the coming weeks it will be decided whether further measures are necessary.
On December 18, Volkswagen announced that it would adjust production at individual locations in China, North America and Europe due to global shortages in semiconductors. Vehicles of the brands VW passenger cars and commercial vehicles as well as Skoda, Seat and, to a limited extent, Audi are affected. Since then, numerous other car manufacturers have also suspended or throttled production in some plants.
