Ces 2021, the technology fair in the Covid era becomes virtual and so this year in Las Vegas the annual Consumer Electronics Show was held completely digital. The ’21 edition once again saw the car as protagonist, but in a decidedly lesser tone, due to the absence of a physical show where the houses could exhibit futuristic prototypes (perhaps too much) and express themselves in forward fugues on the car that drives alone and even on that steering wheel that was supposed to arrive in 2020 but that we have not seen and not because of the Coronavirus.
Speaking of great hi-tech catchphrases, those that recur at geyser cadences, especially in January when the world of digital and car tech is focused on Ces, these days we are witnessing the great return of the chimerical Apple Car, the Apple car that according to storytelling should change the history of four wheels. Insistent rumors returned regardless of the fact that the Cupertino house had shut down the Titan project two years ago. Could it be the right time? hard to say. Apple, despite its enormous wealth, is unable to build a car: it needs a partner (Hyundai is said). But has Apple really decided that when it grows up it wants to make cars? The question has no answer, it is certain that it must see if there is life after the iPhone and here the key remains the one from 2014 to today: autonomous driving and newly developed batteries.

To reiterate a key point: building cars is not like making a mobile phone or an electronic device. Dyson is well aware that he wanted the electric car starting from the vacuum cleaners and then backtracking with a planetary fool.
It must be said that this year at the virtual Ces and its surroundings the best things have been seen on the core business of the event: new generation TV and smartphones; Samsung anticipated the launch of the Galaxy S Series in January, unveiled the S21 and new technologies for cars connected in 5G with on-board units capable of handling huge data streams.
From Harman (Samsung group) comes the concept of a futuristic car with a 49 ”QLed screen capable of being activated based on the state of the car, 360 Vision Monitoring System and Automotive Samsung Health technology capable of analyzing the state of health of passengers. Bosch instead relaunches on autonomous driving and electrification with a focus on software for the creation of personalized and connected services. Software is a critical point of the automotive industry and where there seem to be the greatest challenges, especially in the historic match between Germany and California for the car of the future. Mercedes thinks about the user interfaces of the near future by unveiling the Hyperscreen Mbux concept. It is a dashboard that itself becomes a screen.
