Munich It’s a turning point. Daimler Truck, the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in the world, is gradually saying goodbye to the diesel engine after almost a century. After the passenger car division, the truck division of the Mercedes manufacturer also wants to redirect the majority of its investments by 2025 – away from the combustion engine and towards electric drives.
The result: Daimler Truck plans to hand over the development and production of medium-duty engines (MDEG) in the coming years to the US group Cummins Inc., which wants to supply several truck manufacturers from Mannheim. And the Swabians are also actively looking for partners for heavy four- and six-cylinder units (HDEP). But here the employee representatives can only cooperate under the opposite direction.
