The Fast and Furious franchise is undoubtedly one of the greatest movie series in history. Since the first film hit the cinemas in 2001, the series has gained millions of fans from all corners of the globe, particularly gearheads. The latest movie in the series — dubbed F9 — came out not that long ago, and even though the plot no longer revolves around cars and street racing, it’s still an action-packed flick worth watching.
As usual, the F9 movie has some of the biggest Hollywood stars, including Vin Diesel, Tyrese Gibson, John Cena, Ludacris, and more. In the film, these stars are huge car enthusiasts, driving iconic cars like the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, Toyota Supra, Noble M600, and the Nissan Skyline GT-R. What many gearheads don’t know is that some of the F9 stars are also huge gearheads in real life, driving cars that most of us will never see on the road, let alone drive. Let’s check out some of the F9 cast members’ best rides.
10 Vin Diesel — SpeedKore Performance 1970 Dodge Charger ‘Tantrum’
Having starred in almost every Fast and Furious movie, Vin Diesel has made a fortune, part of which he likes to spend on cars. However, Diesel didn’t have to spend a dime on arguably his coolest car, as it was a gift from his fellow cast members for his 52nd birthday.
The gift in question is a custom 1970 Dodge Charger dubbed ‘Tantrum,’ which is fitting as it’s similar to the actor’s favorite car in the franchise. The Tantrum was built by SpeedKore Performance, a Wisconsin-based tuner known for building some of the best custom muscle cars. The Tantrum is powered by a monstrous 9.0-liter twin-turbo V8 cranking out a crazy 1,650 horsepower.
9 Sung Kang — Datsun 240Z
Sung Kang has been a key member of the Fast and The Furious franchise since day one, with his most notable appearance being in Tokyo Drift. Kang is also a huge gearhead in real life, and he even owns a custom tuning shop. Kang’s best creation is a custom Datsun 240Z, which is one of the most desirable classic Japanese sports cars of all time.
Kang’s 240Z, also known as Fugu Z, is a stunner with a widebody kit, new wheels, and many interior and powertrain modifications to make it perfect for racing. This car is truly a work of art, which is why it won Kang an award at the SEMA show.
8 John Cena — 1970 Plymouth Superbird
John Cena is one of the newest additions to the Fast and Furious family, having been cast as Dominic Toretto’s long-lost brother in the F9 film. Cena has been one of the WWE’s highest-paid wrestlers over the last two decades, which explains why he owns such an impressive car collection.
One of the best cars in Cena’s collection is a 1970 Plymouth Superbird. This winged warrior looks fantastic and comes with a 7.0-liter V8 rated at 425 hp, making it superfast. Since Plymouth is no longer in business, the Superbird is now one of the highest sought-after classic muscle cars.
7 Vin Diesel — 1963 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Grand Sport
Another superb car in Vin Diesel’s collection is the awe-inspiring 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Grand Sport. This car needs no introduction, as it’s one of the most beautiful American cars ever made. On top of that, it’s extremely rare, as only 199 rolled out of the factory in 1963.
The Sting Ray Grand Sport is a specially lightened car that was designed for racing. It has a powerful V8 under the hood and comes with a vacuum brake booster, a front anti-roll bar, and stiff shocks and springs for improved handling.
6 Michelle Rodriguez — Ferrari 458
Michelle Rodriguez plays Dom’s wife Letty Ortiz, a street racer, mechanic, and thief. Rodriguez wasn’t much of a gearhead when she first appeared in the franchise, as she didn’t even have a driver’s license. However, as the series progressed, she developed a love for supercars and can now be seen driving them around Hollywood.
One of Rodriguez’ favorite cars is a Ferrari 458. The 458 is a mid-engined sports car with a 4.5-liter V8 producing 562 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque, making it a joy to drive.
5 Tyrese Gibson — Maserati GranTurismo
American singer, model, and actor Tyrese Gibson joined Fast and Furious in the second film. He disappeared from the cast for several years before returning in Fast Five. His character, Roman, is an obnoxious and stylish smooth-talker — exactly the kind of guy who’d own a Maserati GranTurismo.
As it turns out, Tyrese is that guy even in real life, as he owns a GranTurismo. The GranTurismo is a gorgeous grand tourer that has been available since 2007 as a coupe or convertible.
4 Ludacris – 2016 Honda NSX
Ludacris plays the role of Tej Parker, a popular character who used to own a garage in Miami but is now a world-class hacker and tech expert. Ludacris drives a 2016 Honda NSX in the new movie, which is also the car he drives in real life.
The 2016 Honda NSX may not be as revered as its predecessor, but it’s still one hell of a car. It has a new modern design and is powered by a hybrid system consisting of a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 and three electric motors.
3 John Cena — Corvette InCenaRator
John Cena loves cars so much that he had a one-off specially built for him and then named it after him. Dubbed the ‘InCenaRator,’ this custom looks like it’s straight out of a Sci-fi movie and even has flamethrowers in the back.
The InCenaRator started life as a Chevrolet Corvette C7, but has a new body built by the Parker Brothers. It has a 5.5-liter V8 under the hood blurting out 491 hp, making it pretty fast. Interestingly, the InCenaRator has a glass roof that opens up like a clamshell to allow for entry.
2 Michelle Rodriguez — Jaguar F-Type
It’s no secret that Michelle Rodriguez loves her European supercars. The other European supercar in her garage is the Jaguar F-Type, a two-door grand tourer developed as the spiritual successor to the iconic E-Type.
The F-Type has a beautiful design, whether as a coupe or convertible. It also has the power to match, thanks to a 5.0-liter supercharged Jaguar AJ133 V8 cranking out 495 hp. Interestingly, it was in a Jaguar F-Type that Rodriguez managed to hit 200 mph for the first time in her life.
1 Ludacris — 1993 Acura Legend
Ludacris has many exotic and expensive cars in his collection, but his favorite of all time is the one he owned before the fame — a 1993 Acura Legend. The actor has held on to the car for decades and has traveled more than 280,000 miles in it.
After thousands of miles, the Legend was in terrible shape, and Ludacris even considered getting rid of it at some point. Thankfully, Acura was impressed by his devotion to the car and offered to give it a full restoration in 2015. Now it’s as good as new.
