Karlsruhe The Federal Court of Justice (BGH) will probably for the first time sentence the automaker Audi to compensation for damages because the group installed manipulated VW diesel engines in its vehicles. During the trial on Thursday, the BGH indicated that it considered the result of the conviction of the Volkswagen subsidiary by the Munich Higher Regional Court to be viable. According to a preliminary assessment, the appeal submitted by Audi could not be successful, said the presiding judge RĂ¼diger Pamp. He wants to announce his verdict at 3 p.m.
In four cases, the Munich Higher Regional Court came to the conclusion that at least one person in charge of the Audi Group knew that the VW diesel engines had an impermissible defeat device and therefore had to be liable for it. The OLG had awarded damages to the four buyers of Audi vehicles.
Audi appealed against these four decisions to the BGH, which were negotiated on Thursday. Several other considerations of the OLG are legally incorrect, said Pamp. The reason that a representative from Audi was aware of the manipulation was soundly justified, he added.
